Ozempic – the next miracle drug?

Ozempic – the next miracle drug?

Tuesday, 27 May, 2025

Time and again, quick fixes and tonics have been introduced in the market that promise guaranteed weight loss in no time.

Zumba, Power yoga, keto diet, pills, and recently Ozempic are making waves in the industry.

Ozempic, for those who are not aware, is a prescribed medication that type-2 diabetes patients usually take. Ozempic contains Semaglutide, which acts like a natural hormone called GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1).

While Ozempic has taken the American and European world by storm, Wegovy and Munjaro are its cousins, which have become very popular in Asian countries.

This wonder ingredient helps in lowering blood sugar, regulating digestion and managing weight loss as it reduces appetite and makes you feel full for longer periods.

Ozempic has gained huge popularity among the masses as a quick and easy weight loss tool. Although its primary use stands for diabetic patients, Ozempic has quickly changed its job designation. The excessive use of Ozempic is related to our society’s evil habit of incessantly fat-shaming people and the fake social media ideals which ultimately leads them to seek quick and harmful fixes.

As a trusted plastic surgeon practicing in Ahmedabad, I have met patients who’ve lost 15–20 kgs in a few months, thrilled with the numbers but not-so-thrilled with the loose skin, loss if muscle strength and the infamous Ozempic face!

Ozempic - the next miracle drug?

So, What Happens After Ozempic?

Let’s paint the picture. You’ve shed those 20 kgs like a snake shedding its skin — but guess what? That skin didn’t get the memo. It’s still hanging around like an awkward ex at a party. Your arms wave a second after you stop waving, your tummy feels like it’s giving you a slow clap, and your once-plump cheeks? Let’s just say your selfie game took a hit.

Now don’t panic, this is where I come in.

As an experienced Plastic Surgeon in Ahmedabad,  I’ve seen a steady rise in post-weight-loss makeover requests. And no, it’s not about achieving a “perfect” body, it’s about feeling good in your new skin and making sure that skin actually fits.

Let’s break down some of the most common solutions my patients ask for:

 1. The “Tummy Tuck” (Abdominoplasty)

Say goodbye to that stubborn abdominal overhang that makes you feel like you’re still carrying emotional baggage from your pre-Ozempic days. A tummy tuck helps flatten and tighten your abdomen, giving you a sleeker silhouette. Bonus? You can finally wear that bodycon dress without feeling like you’ve smuggled a burrito underneath.

 2. Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

Ah, yes, the “bye-bye arms.” If your triceps now resemble melting candle wax, this one’s for you. An arm lift helps remove excess skin and gives your arms a more defined shape; imagine less bad, more badass.

 3. Facial Rejuvenation

Weight loss can be amazing for your health, but let’s not ignore the face, especially when your cheeks suddenly ghost you. Options like fat grafting, skin-tightening treatments, and even mini-facelifts can bring back the bounce, the glow, and the “Hey, have you changed your skincare routine?” kind of compliments.

But Is This the New Normal?

Here’s where we need to have a real chat. I’m all for body autonomy. If Ozempic gives you confidence, control, and health, fantastic. But using it as a “miracle shortcut” because the internet convinced you that thinner = better? That’s where I raise an eyebrow (a naturally sculpted one, thanks).

Because here’s the kicker: weight loss doesn’t automatically mean body confidence. You might drop kilos but still carry insecurity, especially if your body changes overnight and you don’t recognize yourself in the mirror.

Let’s Talk Side Effects (a.k.a. The Not-So-Insta-Worthy Bits)

While Ozempic is making headlines, what’s buried under the hashtags are reports of nausea, fatigue, muscle loss, and even disordered eating patterns. Your body starts rejecting entire food groups. You’re no longer eating because you’re hungry; you’re eating because you remembered it’s lunchtime.

And some people love the side effect of not craving food. Until it backfires. Until your body is in starvation mode and your hair’s falling out and your energy crashes harder than your investment in crypto.

ALSO the most important of all – Once you stop injecting this miracle drug and are not married to a defined workout and diet pattern, ALL the weight that you lost will come back to haunt you!

So, Should You Jump on the Ozempic Wagon?

I’m not here to give you a prescription. But I will give you some real talk:

  • Are you trying to improve your health or impress someone who can’t remember your birthday?

  • Are you supported with a long-term plan for wellness, or just trying to fit into your college jeans for one Goa trip?

  • Are you okay with trading cravings for complications?

If the answers lean toward the quick-fix zone, maybe it’s time to pause, reflect, and breathe.

Conclusion

I believe in science. I believe in medicine. And I definitely believe in looking fabulous at any size. But I also believe in having a balance in health that isn’t dictated by trends or Instagram reels.

So, whether you’re considering Ozempic or you’ve already been there, know this: you deserve to feel good in your body. And when you’re ready for that post-weight-loss tune-up, skin tightening, or even just a confidence consult, I’m here.

Not just as an experienced plastic surgeon in Ahmedabad, but as someone who believes in your glow-up journey!
