Understanding the Recovery Process After Rhinoplasty Surgery

Understanding the Recovery Process After Rhinoplasty Surgery

Tuesday, 7 January, 2025

I have many clients who want to undergo Rhinoplasty surgery but are afraid to do so. Their worries regarding Rhinoplasty surgery stem from their fear of surgery and the bad media around plastic surgery.

I have noticed that a client is more relaxed if I tell them not only what the surgery entails but also what recovery of nose reshaping surgery will look like. I believe it is absolutely necessary to explain regarding the entire process rather than just paint a pretty picture regarding end result.

I know that there are a lot of people out there that have a lot of questions about nose-shaping surgery in Ahmedabad and in this blog, I will try to answer some of them.

Lets start with the basics…

Rhinoplasty – Pop Culture’s “Nose Job”

What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, also known as nose job surgery, is a surgical procedure that changes the shape and size of the nose. Some people opt for nose shaping surgery in Ahmedabad for aesthetic reasons. They want to enhance their overall face by reshaping this feature.

For some people, undergoing Rhinoplasty surgery is a functional rather than aesthetic matter. Getting a nose reshaping surgery leads to improved nasal function as well as easier breathing.

Is Everyone Getting Nose-y?

How Common is Rhinoplasty in India?

Rhinoplasty surgery is very common in India. Last year, India was the second most common country where Rhinoplasties were performed. In Ahmedabad, I have many clients who have approached me for nose reshaping surgery. Some of my clients are from outside Ahmedabad, even outside Gujarat.

Although social media has popularised Turkey and other middle eastern countries for rhinoplasty, it will comfort you to know that India has one of the best success rates for nose reshaping surgery.

Recovery After Rhinoplasty Surgery

Like any other surgery, nose reshaping surgery has a recovery period. Swelling is pretty normal after the surgery especially in our Indian population where the skin is thick and oily.

The recovery time from rhinoplasty surgery can vary from person to person. The recovery time depends on how major the surgery was and how the body responds to the nose-reshaping surgery. However, there is no bed rest involved and people can get back to routine work as early as 5 days after surgery.

This is what recovery after nose reshaping surgery looks like:

For a week or two after the nose job surgery, your nose will have a splint support  to protect it. After a week, I will safely remove the bandage as well as the stitches, if any. In the first two or three weeks, the swelling and bruising is reduced to a great deal. After the first month, it is safe for you to return to daily workout activities like jogging, cycling, etc.

In two months, you can wear glasses, comfortably blow your nose, and also pick up rigorous workout activities. Within six months after the Rhinoplasty surgery, any other issues around your nose will resolve. It takes upto a year for even the minutest swelling to completely resolve, dont be alarmed, that is the normal process for any surgery.

Rely, Rest, Recover

Tips for Smooth Recovery After Rhinoplasty Surgery

I always want the best for my clients, so before conducting Rhinoplasty surgery, I take them through what the recovery will be like and share tips with them for a speedy recovery.

Although the recovery time is bound to be different for each person, there are a few things that can be done for smooth post-surgery recovery. Here are a few tips I give my clients after they visit me to get nose-shaping surgery in Ahmedabad.

  1. As swelling is common after nose reshaping surgery, use ice packs to manage swelling and reduce discomfort.
  1. Giving your body enough rest is important as it will help you recover faster. So get plenty of rest as it will also help with reducing the pain.
  1. To help the healing process go smoothly, I always recommend my patients or clients to avoid smoking for a few weeks before and after the surgery. As smoking can harm the blood vessels and slow down healing, it is best to keep it at bay after nose reshaping surgery.
  1. After the Rhinoplasty surgery, stick to a healthy diet for a few months. I always have this conversation with my clients before their surgery. It is important to provide your body with all the nutrients that it will need to heal. So, I make sure that my clients understand the importance of a healthy diet.
  1. The last tip I will share is that always, always attend your post-operations appointments, no matter how inconvenient they are. You may think about skipping them because you feel okay on the outside. The best rhinoplasty surgeon will have a closer look and make sure everything is okay on the inside.
